The company was established by the National Polypropylene Company Ltd., which was jointly owned by Mr. Khalifa Al-Melhem, the chief executive officer of the company at the time, and Mr. Munther Al-Lahiq, who negotiated all the deals related to the project, either before or after the establishment of the Advanced Petrochemical Company. Currently, the National Polypropylene Company Limited owns 7.9% of the Advanced Petrochemical Company.

The Advanced Petrochemical Company started building its factories in May 2005 and the company currently produces 455,000 tons of propylene and 450,000 tons of polypropylene annually, at the company's site in Jubail Industrial City on the east coast of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The company started commercial production of polypropylene on March 3, 2008.

Since its inception, the company has been able to prove itself as one of the major players in the petrochemical industry, not only in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, but also in the Middle East and North Africa, because the company uses advanced technologies and provides high-quality products.

The Advanced Petrochemical Company uses PDH-Catifin technology, which is licensed by "EPB Lumus" to produce propylene, and also uses Novolen technology to produce polypropylene. The company's products are the basic building blocks used in the manufacture of daily commodities, which are endless, such as personal care products, lightweight plastic packaging, building materials, auto components, textiles, medical applications, and more. As a result of the widespread use of the company's products, thousands of products are now safer, stronger and more affordable.

In order to better market its products, the Advanced Petrochemical Company has signed several agreements with actors and leaders with long experience in this field, such as Vinmar International, Mitsubishi, and Domo N. V.
